STEAM

What is STEAM?

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. While the acronym started in classroom education circles as an offshoot of STEM education, STEAM can be about more than just “promoting science learning for K-12”. STEAM can be an umbrella term for any interdisciplinary exploration of Art, Humanities, Culture, and STEM.

There is a long history of Art and STEM collaboration that existed outside of classroom education before STEM was even an acronym. Festivals, exhibitions, journals and media are just a few examples of how STEM mixed with Art can create new and wonderful things.

By learning from the long history of Art & STEM, we can work together to provide extraordinary experiences for learners of all ages.

Check out the link below to learn more about the history of STEM, STEAM and everything between.

Science is one (valuable) way of understanding the world. But there are many “ways of knowing”. STEAM is a lens through which we can explore different approaches to a topic. We can use STEAM to bridge STEM subjects with the Arts and Humanities to create new ideas, emotions, and ways of thinking that you don’t get in isolation.

“The difference between science and the arts is not that they are different sides of the same coin… or even different parts of the same continuum, but rather, they are manifestations of the same thing. They spring from the same source. The arts and sciences are avatars of human creativity. It’s our attempt as humans to build an understanding of the universe, the world around us. It’s our attempt to influence things, the universe internal to ourselves and external to us.”

– Dr. Mae C. Jemison (“Teach Arts and Science Together”, TED2002)

STEAM Offerings

I’d love to work with you to create incredible STEAM happenings. I want to inspire learners to explore, experiment, and expand their horizons so they can create something new. My goal is that people walk away from these experiences feeling as though their brain has been aired out.

Hands-On Activities

I develop unique multidisciplinary experiences to spark curiosity and creativity.

Events

Let’s get together and plan a panel, workshop or event that bridges disciplines.

Resources

COMING SOON!

I’ve got some resources in the works, and I can’t wait to share them.
